Changes in the Sophia University Entrance Ceremonies on September 21 due to Typhoon No.25

*Entrance Ceremony on September 21
As announced on this webpage yesterday, the entrance ceremony on September 21 will be held in a single session beginning at 11:40 a.m. for all incoming students. The first session, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., will not be held.
・Other scheduled events, including departmental meetings and the FLA placement test, are cancelled.
・Student ID cards will be distributed from 11:00 a.m. in the lobby on the first floor of Building 6, before the entrance ceremony.
・If you have concerns about traveling to campus due to weather conditions or disruptions to public transportation, you do not need to put yourself at risk to attend the ceremony. However, please be sure to pick up your student ID card at the Center for Academic Affairs (first floor, Building 2) as soon as possible from September 24 onward.
・As the two ceremony sessions will be combined into one, each student may be accompanied by no more than one parent or guarantor at the ceremony venue. We sincerely apologize for this change, especially to those who have already made reservations, and kindly ask for your understanding.
If the venue reaches capacity, some attendees may be directed to a classroom where the ceremony will be live-streamed, even if they come to the venue in person.
The ceremony will also be live-streamed on YouTube, which you may use as an alternative viewing option.
・If both the JR Chuo Line Rapid Service and the JR Chuo-Sobu Line (Local Service) are completely suspended as of tomorrow morning, the entrance ceremony may also be cancelled. In that case, we will post an announcement on this webpage by approximately 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.

1. Changes in Entrance Ceremonies

In order for disaster prevention, we regret to cancel the first session of the entrance ceremony. All the new students are asked to attend the second session.

2. Changes in Attendance by Parents and Guarantors to the Ceremony

Due to the limited capacity of the venue, we regret to announce that NOT ALL family members/guarantors (who have already applied) can be accommodated in the ceremony venue. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we ask that up to only one family member per student come to our campus to attend the ceremony.
Even under this condition, in the case the ceremony venue becomes fully seated, the rest of participants will be guided to a classroom where the ceremony will be live-streamed.
We are very sorry for the situation, but given this emergency, your kind understanding will be greatly appreciated.

Sophia University Entrance Ceremony September 2026 will be held as below.
We will NOT be sending out invitation letters for the entrance ceremony via postal mail. All information will be provided on this website, so please check it regularly.

＜Notes＞

• Please note that new students and their parents or guarantors will have separate seating areas. 
• Please follow the instructions of the staff and take your seats from the front of the venue, filling available seats in order. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
• The entire ceremony will be conducted in English. However, the program for the ceremony, distributed on the day, will be bilingual in English and Japanese.
• Please arrive at the venue at least 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony, as it may get crowded just before the opening. After the ceremony begins, entry may be temporarily restricted, even for new students. We kindly ask that you allow extra time and arrive early.
•  There is no cloakroom at the ceremony venue, so we cannot store any luggage. In addition, there are no lockers available on campus, so please use the coin lockers at nearby train stations.
• If you need any special accommodations, including if you use a wheelchair or have difficulty walking, please contact the General Affairs Group in advance.
• There are no specific dress code requirements. Attendees typically wear a variety of clothing, including suits and traditional ethnic garments from their own countries. However, please wear attire that is appropriate for a ceremonial occasion.
• If you will be absent from the ceremony, no notification is required. However, please contact your faculty office regarding the graduate school/faculty meetings.

2. Graduate School/Faculty Meetings

Graduate School/Faculty Meetings will be held following the ceremony. Guidance will be provided by faculty members.
