What to do if you are harassed

What to do if you are harassed

  • If you are harassed, do not hesitate to seek consultation. You should seek advice at an early stage before things becomes serious.
  • If possible, you should tell the harasser that the conduct is unwelcome. If it is difficult to say it directly, seek advice from a person you can rely on. You should not be facing it alone and suffering.
  • Do not blame yourself for not having said “No” in the first place. Harassment occurs because it involves situations where saying “No” is most difficult.
  • If you are harassed, you are advised to maintain a record of what happened and the time and place it occurred. The record will serve as objective information for resolving cases of sexual harassment. Keeping a record is strongly advised if there is repeated conduct of harassment.
  • If you feel you are physically endangered, you are advised to contact the police without delay.
  • Contact the Consultant you wish to see. If you prefer it you may remain anonymous.
  • If the problem cannot be resolved by consultation, you can request the Complaint Committee to arrange a discussion of the matter between you and the accused or you can submit a complaint to the Complaint Committee.
