The Ainu are an indigenous people in the northern region of the Japanese archipelago, particularly Hokkaido. The Ainu culture is distinctive, with a language that is unrelated to Japanese, a spirituality that holds that spirits dwell in every part of the natural world, traditional dances that are performed at family events and festivals, and crafts such as wood carving and embroidery that incorporate unique patterns.
Upopoy serves as a national center for the revival and development of Ainu culture, an invaluable culture in Japan that is at risk of extinction.

アイヌ民族は日本列島北部周辺、とりわけ北海道の先住民族です。日本語と系統の異なる言語である「アイヌ語」をはじめ、自然界すべての物に魂が宿るとされている「宗教観」、祭りや家庭での行事などに踊られる「古式舞踊」、独特の「文様」による刺繍、木彫り等の工芸など、固有の文化を発展させてきました。ウポポイは日本の貴重な文化でありながら存立の危機にあるアイヌ文化の復興・発展のための拠点となるナショナルセンターです。

Since its establishment in 1873, Igagoe has kept its tradition to manufacture the Iga’s naturally brewed Tamamiso and soy sauce. It has never changed the manufacturing method for Igagoe Soy sauce even now at the modern factory and these are the fine products made in the natural brewing we stick with.
