Sophia Open Research Weeks

From November 6 to 23, 2023, Sophia Research Organization will hold “Sophia Open Research Weeks,” which introduces the research results of each research unit (institute) at Sophia. This year marks the 10th year of this event, and many projects such as lectures, symposia and so on are held for the two weeks.

Webinar Online Symposium: Labor Laws of Southeast Asian Migrant-Sending Countries
Technical intern trainees have limited opportunities to learn labor laws in their home nations, and there are a number of legal violations toward the technical intern trainees in Japan.  The panelist will discuss what actions or procedures should be taken in Japan in response to the Mekong Migration Network (MMN) investigation report of labor laws.

Roundtable Discussion: Island Exchanges: Blue Food Systems, Gender Empowerment and Environmental Literacy
Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are facing many challenges, impeding their ability to meet their 2030 SDG targets. Sitting on the front lines of climate change, sea-level rise, ocean acidification, marine biodiversity loss among other adverse impacts are threatening SIDS vulnerable state of food insecurity.  This session will explore how marine ecosystem rehabilitation and innovative blue foods solutions may hold the key to increasing food security and resilience in blue food production systems and marine ecosystems, ensuring no one Is left behind in SIDS.

Workshop: Literature in Heisei Japan
This roundtable includes several scholars who contributed to the forthcoming anthology of critical essays on literature in Heisei Japan, on the themes of ” Language,” “Spaces Seen and Unseen,” and “Family, Identity, Gender, Body.”  We hope to stimulate discussion on aspects of literary development in the 30 years of Heisei Japan and trace the creative impulses in a diverse body of work.
