Sophia-Arrupe International Residence

A shared unit dormitory where you can experience multicultural exchange in everyday life

Sphia-Arrupe International Residence is a place where the University’s principles of “humanistic education based on Christian humanism” and “Bringing the World Together through Wisdom” are put into practice, fostering global leaders. It is a coeducational international residence where students from diverse backgrounds—including nationality, religion, culture, and language—live together and learn from one another.
The residence is named after Fr. Pedro Arrupe, former Superior General of the Society of Jesus (SJ), who is closely associated with the University’s Educational Spirit, “For Others, With Others.”

Feature and Concept

At this dormitory, students live in small living groups of approximately seven members, developing their understanding of internationality and diversity through daily interaction in a multicultural and multilingual environment.
Each group is led by a leader and engages in activities such as meetings and events, where residents take an active role in dormitory management. By working through differences in perspectives and everyday challenges, they contribute to building a strong community and shaping a vibrant dormitory culture.

*The Sophia-Arrupe International Residence retains moisture indoors, making it prone to mold growth if temperature and humidity are not properly managed. To minimize mold growth,
students should apply to the dormitory with a full understanding and agreement of the following points:

<Compliance Items>
-When using the air conditioner, please make sure to use the remote control, not the wall panel. Please keep it running 24 hours a day.
1. Press the ‘冷房(暖房)’ button on the remote control, Lower/higher the room temperature to a comfortable level. Recommended Temperature Setting:24-26℃.
2. When the room reaches a comfortable temperature, press the ‘除湿’ button on the wireless remote control to start dehumidifying. Set the humidity to 40% using the ‘除湿調整’ button on the wireless remote control.
* Please make sure that the ‘体感’ is turned off.
* Lowering the temperature alone can cause a sharp increase in relative humidity, raising the risk of mold growth. Please adhere to the above settings even during long absences such as home visits or travel.

-Do not leave the range hood in the DK area on continuously, as it may excessively intake air with high external humidity into the room.
-Do not dry damp clothes indoors. Indoor drying can significantly increase humidity, which may not be manageable even with reheating dehumidification air conditioners. Use a drying machine to completely dry damp clothes and towels.

<Other Living Precautions>
-Regularly ventilate and clean closets and drawers and leave them open when going out for long periods. Stagnant air can lead to mold growth.
-To ensure good ventilation, do not overfill closets and drawers with clothes; aim to fill them to about 80% capacity. Also, do not immediately store worn clothes in the closet as they may still contain moisture.
-After waking up, do not make the bed immediately; allow sweat to dry before arranging it. Additionally, wash bedding (especially pillowcases) regularly. Accumulated sweat and body oils can promote mold growth.
-If you feel that dehumidification is insufficient, brow a dehumidifier at the dormitory. If necessary, dormitory staff can help empty tank water during your long absence.

* To maintain appropriate temperature and humidity conditions, we may ask for the cooperation of residents in monitoring with hygrometers.
* If mold occurs, please consult the dormitory office.
