A variety of scholarships are available for non-Japanese degree students who have come from abroad to study at Sophia with a “Student” (ryugaku) status of residence. Please check “My Sophia”(Scholarship [International student with Student visa]) for all application information. Please feel free to consult with the Center for Student Affairs if you have sudden changes in your financial situation or if you are not sure which scholarship is suitable for you.

Sophia University New Student Scholarship (may apply for before entering Sophia University)

This is a scholarship (repayment is not required) covering the full, one-half, or one-third of the Tuition Fee for the students with excellent grades whose first-choice university is our university experiencing financial hardship that affects their studies.

Sophia University Tuition Support Scholarship

This is a scholarship (repayment is not required) covering the full, one-half, or one-third of the Tuition Fee for the students who are facing financial hardship that makes it difficult to continue their studies despite their tremendous motivation.

Sophia University Benefactors’ Scholarships

These scholarships are offered by the benefactors in and outside of Japan for students who meet the requirements.

External Scholarships (Offered by Private Organizations)

These scholarships are offered by the private organizations to support students who meet the requirements set by the organizations.

Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students

This study grant (48,000yen per month / FY2025 result) is supported to students with excellent grades and need of financial assistance to continue their studies as an international student.
